Hi, my name is Mei Carmer, and I am an Associate Financial Advisor here at Katterhenry Investment Group of NEST Capital. In case you missed our Finance 101 seminars, you’re in luck. Welcome to a bonus episode to our 8 episode video series highlighting the various topics we discussed.
In this video, we will go over some ways you can try to save money. First, try to make a shopping list before you go to the store; this will allow you to avoid going down every aisle and impulse buying. Try shopping with a budget in mind. Then you can automatically eliminates options outside of your price range; think about how at Christmastime when you have gifting limits, you don’t even look at things above the range. Try applying that mentality to your everyday life. Look for coupons, rebates, sales or even cashback apps to save money. Consider buying generic versus name brand; often times they are very similar quality and could be saving you money. Enroll in rewards programs to earn dollars off or free items. Take advantage of member or employee discounts. Some companies will pay your gym membership or have discounts to places. You should also try to not save your payment info online; this will force you to think twice before buying as you have to manually enter your payment info. A fun way to save money is to try thrifting; you can find some really great used items for a cheaper price and are also being more sustainable. When buying larger items, especially, do research before you buy something and consider shopping for value. It might be more expensive upfront, but if it’s going to last a lot longer, it may be worth it. For those who still use cash, try a $5 bill jar or saving your change. A new trend is a no-spend week or month, where you only buy essentials and nothing else to try and save money. These are just a handful of ways to save. Get creative and try to find other ways. This has been a bonus episode of our Finance 101 video series. Thanks for tuning in!
